WITKOWITZ Group DAVID SMR Technology Advances to Large-Scale Deployment in Ukraine through Strategic Partnership with Polish ELQ
On 27 June 2026, one of the leading Ukrainian media outlet LIGA.net published news about the Polish energy group ELQ S.A. announcing plans for large-scale investments in Ukraine's energy sector, with a key focus on deploying Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology developed by the WITKOWITZ Group — the industrial backbone of TRIUMPH Alliance.
DAVID SMR: A Czech-Ukrainian Engineering Achievement
The DAVID SMR technology represents years of dedicated research and development by the WITKOWITZ Group, created from the ground up by an international engineering team comprising Czech and Ukrainian specialists. This collaborative effort has been coordinated through the CESTA SYNERGOATOM platform, operating under the management of SYNERGOATOM SE.
In particular, as an official participant of the CESTA SYNERGOATOM platform, Witkowitz Atomica signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) in 2022, as well as a Memorandum with NAEK Energoatom (December 9, 2022), underscoring the long-standing sectoral relations with Ukraine in the field of small nuclear energy development.
Currently, SYNERGOATOM SE, together with the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants (ISP NPP NASU), the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Sumy State University, is currently developing a concept for cooperation with the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management and the Chornobyl NPP on nuclear and radiation safety issues, as well as on the decommissioning of old VVER units. This collaboration should also support cooperation with ELQ throughout the entire Ukrainian partnership.
The technology development structure within the WITKOWITZ Group includes:
- Witkowitz Atomica a.s. (WA) — owner of the DAVID SMR technology
- Czechatom a.s. — DAVID SMR technology developer
- SYNERGOATOM SE — WA's consulting partner for cooperation with Ukraine in the field of nuclear energy
Strategic Role of SYNERGOATOM SE
SYNERGOATOM SE plays a consulting role in this partnership by representing the interests of all parties in engagement with Ukraine's scientific community, industrial sector, and nuclear energy regulatory bodies. The CESTA SYNERGOATOM platform has established strong sectoral connections over many years, including direct cooperation with leading specialized institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Partnership with ELQ S.A.
The Polish energy group ELQ S.A. has publicly confirmed its commitment to deploying DAVID SMR technology in Ukraine, as reported by Money.pl and Wyborcza.biz.
For SYNERGOATOM SE, it is a great honor to participate in such a strategic alliance — both as the representative of the WITKOWITZ Group for Ukrainian initiatives, and as a partner of such a significant player in Polish industry as ELQ, which, like WITKOWITZ, has been actively supporting Ukraine in both humanitarian and industrial areas since the very beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression.
European Unity in Action
This partnership exemplifies the deepening industrial cooperation between the Czech Republic and Poland — two nations united in their understanding of the principles of consolidating the entire European community in support of Ukraine during the ongoing full-scale aggression by the russian federation.
The DAVID SMR deployment initiative represents not merely a commercial venture, but a manifestation of Central European solidarity and commitment to Ukraine's energy independence and post-war reconstruction. TRIUMPH Alliance continues to serve as the coordinating framework bringing together Czech industrial capabilities, Polish investment resources, and Ukrainian scientific expertise in pursuit of a shared vision for European energy security.
